Did you know Starbucks has offered its classic Caramel Macchiato since 1996?
Yep, you heard that right. The Caramel Macchiato is made with freshly steamed milk and vanilla-flavored syrup, marked with espresso, and topped with a caramel drizzle.
This unique flavor combination never gets old, leaving just the right amount of sweetness in each sip.
When this drink was first announced on Starbucks’ menu in 1996, it was intended only to be a special-edition drink for the coffee chain’s 25th anniversary.
Though Starbucks intended the Caramel Macchiato to be offered for only 8 weeks, here we are 27 years later.
This drink remains one of Starbucks’ most popular beverages.
Hot Caramel Macchiato vs. Iced Caramel Macchiato
The traditional Hot Caramel Macchiato comes in four sizes: short, tall, grande, and venti (don’t forget to order a venti when redeeming your stars!). Each grande (16 oz) caramel macchiato contains 250 calories and 33 grams of sugar.
A Grande size of this drink (hot) contains 150 mg of caffeine.
In contrast, a Grande Iced Caramel Macchiato contains 250 calories and 37 grams of sugar. The Iced version (grande) also contains 150 mg of caffeine.
Custom Milk Options
When ordered as-is, the Starbucks Caramel Macchiato is made with regular 2% milk. If you are dairy-free or prefer a milk alternative, the Caramel Macchiato can be customized to your preferences. Select “milk options” when ordering from the Starbucks mobile app to view all of the available choices.
The Caramel Macchiato can be made with oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk, or almond milk for dairy-free coffee drinkers.
If you prefer a creamier macchiato, substitute the 2% milk for whole milk or heavy cream in your order.
